Let's be real for a second, packing is the absolute worst. Whether it's for a week-long vacation with the family or even a one night sleepover at a friend's house, it's so stressful to decide with what to bring. And it's not even packing to begin with, unpacking is also the worst! Sometimes it takes me more than an hour to unpack everything because I'm so tired after coming home!
Packing can be a weakness for a woman and fashionista like me. I'm one of those people who wears the same pants almost every day and then I pack more than ten outfits for a five day vacation even though I only need five, maybe even less (I just have so many outfits that I don't want to forget!) I just hope by the time I'm ready to travel on my own that I can handle the pressure of packing. Thankfully, I've managed to take a few tips from experience, and I am very willing to share them with you:
1.) Know where you're going
Make sure to keep in mind where you're going and what you'll need. If you're going to Disney World, you're probably going to need backpacks or fanny packs. If you're going to Venice, you're going to want to bring a shawl because it's a requirement to where when going into cathedrals. If you're going to somewhere with a beach, bring a swimsuit (obviously). And of course, no matter where you go, you're always need to pack a phone and camera!
2.) Know where you're going/staying and come up with ideas for what to pack
Once you know where you're going, then it's time to figure out what you'll need to bring and what not to bring. And that can be tricky because there's so many things that you can't bring but you want to bring! But don't worry, it's a vacation and you'll be back home in no time.
3.) Look up blogs that list the most important essentials to pack
Usually bloggers have some handy tips on things that you should consider packing for a trip, and hopefully this blog is giving you some helpful advice already!
4.) Make a list
I love lists. I make a list for almost everything, whether for things that need to get done or if I'm just listing a few of my favorite things (which always makes me feel better and something you should try if you're feeling down!) Making a list for packing will help you to know what you're bringing and to not forget about it while you're packing.
5.) Go over your list
Just like checking a grocery list, make sure everything you need is on there. You never know what you might forget!
6.) Look for everything that's on your list
Ahead of time, I like to set out some of the essentials that are on my list so they are ready to go when I start packing. I set them out on my bed or on my floor. I especially like to set out outfits specifically, they need to be organized and I really need to know if I'm bringing the right ones or not!
Yes, the worst yet most important part of packing: packing itself!
8.) Check off the items on your list
Once you check off everything that's on your list, you'll feel much more accomplished and should take a load of stress off your chest.
9.) Make sure you're not forgetting anything
I always need to do a double-check after I pack in case I accidentally forget to pack something that was on my list. Every time I leave for vacation, I always go over in my head trying to remember if I forgot anything. Even when it seems like you packed your entire bedroom, sometimes it feels like you're missing one important essential!
10.) Vacation time!
Now that the worst part is over with, you can go enjoy the trip that you deserve!
