Devastated - as I'm sure you all are as well, as we find out more and more about the terrible shooting that occurred in Orlando this past weekend. It is so horrific to even fathom that this could occur in America. The hate and violence truly breaks my heart. My prayers go out towards the families and friends who lost loved ones, I pray that they rely on their faith to sustain them through this difficult time.
At times like this we tend to fall into a thought pattern of negativity, which is extremely understandable. Some of us tend to become negative when we hear all of the awful news going on in the world and some individuals display negative attitudes due to their lack of self-confidence. I can understand that as well because every human being is his/her own worst critic. Whatever the situation may be, the only way to overcome it is to keep a positive attitude. So today I am hoping to inspire each of you to dig down deep and remain positive.....here are some tips to finding your positivity in each day.
1.) Stop Complaining
Of course this is a habit that we all have and cannot control at times. But as I grow older, I'm starting to realize that complaining is just a waste of time. Why talk negative about something silly when it's more important to focus on the positivity and goodness of life? It's best to think before speaking, and to choose words wisely. Just remember if you're complaint doesn't have a good purpose, then it's not worthy of a complaint - and usually complaints never have a good purpose.
2.) Focus On Your Good Qualities
Negative thoughts have a way of misleading your perception of yourself and can make you overlook your positive qualities. If you are finding yourself worthless, you are absolutely wrong! Each one of us has good qualities within you and many more than you believe you do. Try things out that interest you and then write a list of those things that you are most best at. There is a reason for why God made you the way you are, so embrace the gifts and talents He has given you!
3.) Surround Yourself With Positive Individuals
One of my favorite sayings is, "Your vibe attracts your tribe." It is indeed an important quote to live by, and luckily it has worked out good for me. I use my positivity and interests to find friend groups that share that same quality and thus we create a positive atmosphere. I am very blessed to have found various groups that are positive and make me feel good about myself. It is good to find people that make you laugh, make you smile, make wonderful memories with you, and most importantly, that you can trust. Allow yourself to embrace your positivity and join the perfect tribe that you are meant to be a part of!
4.) Leave The Past Behind
As Timon and Pumbaa would say, "Hakuna Matata"! The past is long gone, even if something embarrassing or upsetting happened ten minutes ago. It's hard to let go of, especially if you have a very good memory. I have many vivid memories throughout the years, and it can at times be both good and bad. I don't like having memories that make me feel embarrassed or break my heart when flashing back to it, but I view those bad memories as life lessons rather than regrets. Just leave the past behind, focus on the present, and look forward to the future.
5.) Treat Yourself
I'm kind of hoping you hear Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreation saying #5 as you read it. Trust me, no one is better at treating you more than you because you know you the best! Now don't overestimate this value, I'm not encouraging you to eat Chipotle and drink Starbucks 24/7, otherwise you may need medical help. But don't be afraid to treat yourself every once in a while with something you love, especially when you need a positive uplift within you.
6.) Find Your Balance
Whether it comes to your bank account or staying grounded, creating a balanced life is a great way to remain positive. It can help sort out different categories, such as relationships, work, activities. Those elements are external, what's on the outside of your heart. When you concentrate on the internal elements (heart, mind, health), your life and positivity will find it's perfect weight on the scale.
7.) Have Faith In The Future
One great way to leave the past behind and to concentrate on positivity, look forward to the upcoming future. It seems scary to not know what is to come, but the only thing we can do is be hopeful and expect the best. When you put faith in your future, the universe will attract you to great opportunities that will soon become great moments.
Even when your life feels complicated or jumbled up at times, you gotta give yourself some rest. I believe that an important task will not be done properly without some breaks in between. When someone feels the need to relax, they can feel that need all over their body. If you ever feel stressed out, take some time for yourself by mediating or taking a long, much-needed nap. This can be great for both mental and physical health, sleeping can even allow you to let go of the little problems that hold you down when you're wide awake!
9.) Make Yourself Laugh
Even during serious times, allowing yourself to have a few laughs can be helpful. It has been stated by experts that a sense of humor is one of the most important human qualities. It can ease physical tension and boost emotional connection, so it's pretty safe to say that laughter is truly the best medicine. And hopefully I'm making you chuckle a bit with some of these goofy gifs!
10.) Love Yourself
In order to have a positive attitude, you have to love yourself first. Even if you are an extremely selfless person, you still require care for your own well-being. Each person born in this universe is different compared to everyone else. You, my friend, are the fruit loop in a world full of plain cheerios. You have so many positive traits that have much potential, so don't be afraid to show them! You deserve to be happy and to live in a positive world, filled with love and passion. Don't compare yourself to others, don't underestimate yourself, and do not change one bit about yourself. Now as I end on this note on a lovely Tuesday, I order you to enjoy the life you are living and to live it with great positivity!
