What a year! There's been quite many ups and downs, as there are for every year. Many people have been complaining about how rough and awful 2016 has been, mostly do due the results of the recent election. Honestly, I beg to differ. This actually might have been my best year yet! The way I see it, the years get better as I get older. Although I don't want to rush it. I like where I am at now, which is why I am sad that this year is coming to an end!
As the new year creeps around the corner, I thought it would be fun share my top ten favorite moments from 2016!
1.) Cleveland Winning a Championship
How could this not be number one on my list of best moments of 2016, or any Clevelander/Ohioan's list for that matter? Cleveland has never had a more victorious moment in history than this past summer after the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 game and won their first NBA title in fifty-two years. Why no reason to celebrate? That week was probably the most packed and wild in the city's history, but thankfully it was completely safe because everyone was joyous. One of our good friends mentioned how he got hugs from thirty strangers! Unfortunately, I didn't get to attend the watch party the night they won, but I got to go the the championship parade two days later and celebrate with LeBron, the other players, and the whole city! Not only will it be one of my favorite moments from 2016, but something I will remember for the rest of my life!
2.) Jimmy Fallon Reading My Tweet
This one was almost number one before the Cavaliers won, but it stills makes it to the top. This is definitely something I will look back on when I think of this year. I still remember looking at my notifications on my Twitter feed that night and realizing that I had made it on The Tonight Show and celebrating that weekend with Jimmy Fallon's ice cream "The Tonight Dough"! I never thought that out numerous attempts to get a Tweet read my rap one would get picked, so unexpected! Thank you, Jimmy and the Roots for making 2016 the greatest year for me yet!
3.) Turning 20-Years Old
20 on May 20th, it was my golden year! Not a big deal as turning 21, but it still is a huge life transition. I am no longer a teenager, and now I'm less than ten years away from turning thirty which is crazy to think about! But believe me, turning the big 2-0 is not a mid-life crisis. The 20s age period is said to be one of the best times of the life to enjoy, and it's only the beginning. I look forward to the adventures I'm about to take on, the new people I'm going to meet, and the planned future that God has for me.
4.) Finishing My First Year of College
Of course I don't want the college years to fly by, but it's nice to know that I'm making my way through it and one step closer to getting a bachelor's degree!
5.) Starting a Fashion Club
It started out as an idea, and now it's in the process of becoming an official college club in 2017. I've never been the president of an organization before, especially for a new one. I am very excited, I love fashion and I think it would be perfect to run a club with people who share the same passion. I can't wait to see what this club brings to Malone.
6.) Going to New York City
Even though it wasn't my first time ever, it was still my first time fully experiencing the city. I got to see a Broadway show, walk through Central Park, walk around Times Square, tour Ellis Island, and climb both the Empire State Building and the Top of the Rock for the first time, all that I have been dreaming about when wishing to visit NYC. Now I can see why so many people love the Big Apple, and I cannot wait to go back again someday!
7.) Going to California (And Paragliding!)
Not my first time like New York City, but it was still a treat to go back a year later! It felt kind of odd visiting the Grove again since it felt like my senior year spring break was yesterday, but I loved going back and embracing every second of it! Los Angeles is a city I definitely want to visit many more times before I die. Plus, I got to stay in San Diego for a while, a city that I was not as familiar with unlike Los Angeles. It was very beautiful and adventurous, I even got to paraglide which became one of the coolest experiences ever!
8.) Getting Paid for a Fashion Blog Post
My blog may not be a big thing going on the world of social media right now, but it's nice to know that some users are paying attention and finding it valuable. When StyleWe, an online retailer that you should definitely check out, asked me to write a blog post about them and getting paid to do so, that reminded me that I'm following the footsteps of a true blogger. I can't wait to get bigger opportunities like this next year and future to come, I'm already one step closer!
9.) Watching the 2016 Rio Olympics
After years of waiting, it was so exciting to watch the next summer olympic games. I so bad wanted to post a picture of myself holding a lit torch on Instagram to celebrate, but my mom thought that was a really bad idea. Overall, this year's games were quite exciting and hard to miss out on. Simone Biles, Michael Phelps, Gabby Douglas, and all the athletes were an inspiration to the viewers and future competitors for the years to come. I did my best not to tear up when watching Michael Phelps swim his last race, but I will always remember him as the greatest swimmer to exist! And of course his angry face, too.
10.) Electing a New President
Although I have mixed feelings about current politics and everyone is worried out of their mind about what's going to happen, I'm glad that we have a new president that will bring hope and new beneficial advances to our country that we need, and I know all will be okay because God is in control no matter what. I am kind of going to miss the fiery debates; however, those were pretty entertaining to watch!
